- 3:19 PM. The officer took a report of a scam. The victim had received an email pretending to be a local religious leader in our community. The emails instructed the victim to purchase $500 worth of Target gift cards and then another $500 worth of Amazon gift cards, stating that they would be used as gifts for local church staff. The victim purchased the cards, and it wasn’t until the victim called the actual person to ask questions about the cards that she realized this was a scam. Reminder: if you receive an email from someone requesting you to give information or make a transaction, verify that the email is one you recognize. It is also a good practice to call the person/business yourself to verify the authenticity of the request.
