There have been several sightings and concerns of coyotes within city limits. This is not a new phenomenon, as we live in rural Iowa, just like coyotes do. What is new, is the amount of security cameras and social media that allow people to share it when they do pass through. We are currently in breeding season for coyotes which is January through March. During this time it is important to keep your pets inside and remove outdoor food sources. Never run from a coyote. Using hazing techniques such as waving your arms and making loud noises are effective ways of frightening them away.
