-11:07AM. Officer and deputy responded to a reported hit and run in the 500 block of E Walnut St. The reporting party stated that while he was traveling east bound in the 400 block of E Walnut St, he was rear-ended by another vehicle that he estimated to be going around 90mph that struck him hard enough to propel him 20 feet forward. The reporting party also stated that the driver of the vehicle appeared to reach out of the window and point what he believed to be a firearm at him before fleeing the scene. Other than a very loud rattling muffler, the reporting party’s vehicle showed no recent damage that would have been a result of a motor vehicle collision at excessive speeds. A vehicle similar to the one the reporting party described was located in a nearby driveway. The vehicle had no damage. The owner of the vehicle stated he had just returned home and was driving at the time of the incident but denied being involved in any collision or having produced a firearm. A witness in the neighborhood stated they heard squealing tires at the time of the call, but not a collision. The reporting party claimed that the other driver switched out cars and had the other one hidden somewhere. Due to a lack of evidence suggesting that there had been a high-speed collision, law enforcement decided to take no further action. While the officer was taking pictures of the reporting party’s vehicle, the reporting party approached the officer and got into close proximity of him. The officer, utilizing his left arm with minimal effort, subsequently redirected the reporting party and warned him to keep his distance. The reporting party then claimed that he had been assaulted by the officer and stated his intention to file charges with the Boone County Sheriff.
