Police Report 8/21 - 8/27/2023

Monday, August 21, 2023
- 8:46 AM. The officer responded to a report of a reckless truck and trailer traveling northbound on H Ave from 260th St. The officer was able to catch up to the vehicle near the Des Moines River bridge on Highway 30 and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was determined to be safe to drive.
- 2:30 PM. The officer took a report of a missing/stolen boat from the 500 block of NE 3rd St. The boat was located a short time later, and arrangements were made for the owner to retrieve it.

Tuesday, August 22, 2023
- 4:12 AM. The deputy investigated suspicious activity in the 100 block of SW 2nd St. It was discovered that a new homeowner was working on his house.
- 8:58 AM. The officer investigated a report of a suspicious vehicle at Lincoln Prairie Park. The car belongs to a homeless individual who was resting at the park.
- 7:00 PM. Deputy notified the Union Pacific about a possible traffic hazard involving their crossing at NW 4th St.

Wednesday, August 23, 2023
- 10:41 AM. The officer retrieved an abandoned bicycle in the alley west of the 100 block of SW 5th St and brought it to the city shed for safekeeping.
- 3:03 PM. The officer investigated a vehicle that had been parked in the alley south of Fareway for a prolonged amount of time. The owner was fine and was just cleaning out a storage unit. He was advised to move his vehicle as quickly as possible to avoid blocking traffic.

Thursday, August 24, 2023
- 8:05 AM. The officer received a report of a vehicle that had been seen driving under the crossing arms on NW 4th St. The Officer was able to make contact with the registered owner and discussed the dangers and consequences of such actions.
- 8:59 AM. The officer returned a phone call regarding a protection order violation. The investigation is ongoing.
- 12:40 PM. The officer received a report of a dog missing from the 300 block of E Division St. The dog was located in the 200 block of NE 3rd St and, after a brief pursuit, was taken into custody in the 400 block of SE 2nd St where it was remanded to its caretaker.
- 12:51 PM. The officer responded to the 300 block of NW 6th St regarding a found dog. The dog was later returned to its’ owner in the 500 block of W Maple St.
- 9:11 PM. Deputies investigated a report of suspicious activity in the 500 block of W Maple St. The investigation was unfounded. Deputies were assisted by the Iowa State Patrol.
- 10:47 PM. Deputies investigated a possible intoxicated driver in the 100 block of W Walnut St. The driver, 63-year-old Mark Riddle of Des Moines, was charged with driving while under suspension. The investigation into operating while intoxicated is ongoing.

Friday, August 25, 2023
- 10:03 AM. The officer conducted a welfare check in the 300 block of E Walnut St. The Officer requested medical assistance, and the subject was transported to the Boone County Hospital for treatment.
- 2:11 PM. The officer took a report of a reckless driver traveling westbound on Highway 30 from L Ave. The Officer stopped the vehicle in the 500 block of Highway 30 and spoke with the driver about distracted driving.
- 2:15 PM. The officer assisted the Boone County Sheriff’s Office with a car v deer accident near 310th St and H Ave.
- 11:15 PM. The deputy followed up on a noise complaint in the 100 block of SW 2nd St.

Saturday August 26, 2023
- 11:33 AM. The deputy investigated a burning complaint in the 400 block of W Cherry St.
- 2:09 PM. The deputy followed up on a complaint in the 300 block of SE 4th St.

Sunday, August 27, 2023
- 1:20 AM. The deputy investigated an open 911 call in the 400 block of W Division St. The Deputy made contact with a resident who advised everything was fine.
- 1:28 AM. The deputy searched for the source of an open 911 call coming from the area of the 300 block of S 1st St. The deputy was unable to locate it.
- 2:29 PM. The deputy investigated a report of criminal mischief in the 500 block of SW 5th St. The investigation is ongoing.
- 5:09 PM. The deputy took a report of reckless driving near E Division St and SE 4th St.
- 5:14 PM. Deputies responded to a motor vehicle collision on the south exit ramp to Highway 30.
