Department reports were presented. Chief Bailey spent a lot of time over the last few weeks at the intersection of 1st and Walnut along with deputies. There were 22 traffic stops made at just that intersection. All stops were people from out of town that weren’t familiar with the area. 11 of the 22 were on July 4th alone. The intersection will continue to be a problem until the road construction is done. Librarian Lori Reutter said the summer reading program has been a success. 200 children are signed up. The library now has a new train table and Lego table. There will be a Lego club program starting when school is back in session. Administrator Emily Clausen reported that Dan Buzzell sprayed for mosquitos this week. He will also be replacing one of his trucks soon. Emily will be sending letters to residents about overgrown yards, trees, and bushes that are causing hazards at intersections. Brenda Dryer, Ames Economic Development, reported on some new housing updates. She also reported that preliminary results are in for the soil boring on the Johnson property. Ogden will have a new contact for AED, Greg Piklapp. Brenda will continue to check in on Ogden as well.
